Aging Gracefully: Miley Cyrus vs. Jay-Z

Everyone knows the music industry is discriminatory as far as age goes. Two examples that immediately come to mind are Jay-Z and Miley Cyrus…and Madonna's armpit hair; but I think opinions on her these days are unanimous.
Jay-Z has been in the industry for a very long time and black is starting to crack. He looks old and it seems to be affecting his creative choices, but he's made some really intelligent choices. He cited the origins of rap back in the early 80's when it was more interwoven with artists like Basquiat and Keith Harring; the first wave of graffiti artists to have success with legitimate galleries. He made a performance piece called "Picasso Baby: A Performance Art Film" and had really hard core artists in it, the guy did his homework. He has some major figures in the art world like Marina Abramovic, Laurie Simmons and Kehinde Wiley. He was rebranding himself in a very intelligent way; openly embracing art forms that influence music in the first place, like performance artist Marina Abramovic. A lot of painters are influenced by music, what comes to mind is Basquiat's work that is influenced by jazz musicians.

Fab 5 Freddy and Jean-Michel Baquiat!

I don't know, everything about Miley Cyrus' new 'look' has already been said. Both Jay-Z and Miley Cyrus are dealing with an insecurity, everyday you see people deal with insecurity well or poorly, these two celebrities are no different.  What I found pathetic was Miley's manager Larry Rudolph emphatically saying after her MTV performance "Oh it was just what we wanted, that was the exact reaction we were hoping for." No one wants to see you molest Robin Thicke with your bizarre fetish fantasy Miley.

It's ALL lame, she even tried to bring Creepers shoes back. That ugly trend needs to stay in the 90's.

Perez Hilton's Halloween costume; the people have spoken.
